Host Workshops
for
Actors and Costumers
May 30 to June 1
The Actor’s Centre Workshop and Creative Costuming
Featuring Richard Howard and Jennifer Hardie
The Borelians Community Theatre, in partnership with ACT-CO
(Association of Community Theatres – Central Ontario),
will be hosting two skill building workshops this spring in
Port Perry for actors and costume/property designers.
The
Actor’s Centre Workshop
The Actor’s Centre Workshop runs Friday
evening from 7 to 10 p.m., May 30, all day Saturday (9 a.m.
coffee, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. workshop), May 31and Sunday
morning (9 a.m. coffee, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. workshop), June
1 and will provide local performers with a rare opportunity
to work with Richard Howard, a member of the Theatre Ontario
Talent Bank, Canadian and American Actor’s Equity and
founder of Pull-Chain Theatre in Sault St. Marie. Mr. Howard
began his professional career at the Stratford Festival and
has acted and directed (more than 500 productions) in England,
France, Australia, the United States and Canada, including
more than 50 communities in Ontario.
The sessions will introduce the actor, beginner and experienced,
to the process of inner work needed to develop a more believable
and truthful form of acting. The workshop is interactive and
casual with plenty of time for questions and experimentation.
Creative
Costuming
On Saturday May 31 (9 a.m. coffee, 9:30 a.m.
to 4 p.m. workshop), Jennifer Hardie will lead a workshop
in creative strategies for costume and prop design. Ms. Hardie
is part of the design team which recently won an ACT-CO THEA
award for costume design for the Borelians’ production
of Alice in Wonderland and she excels at creating specialty/
fantasy costumes and props pieces using found and recycled
materials, imagination and resourcefulness. Ms. Hardie will
offer and demonstrate past successful construction techniques,
offer tips and suggestions, and also welcome specific challenges
to be discussed with the group.
Since both workshops are expected to sell out quickly and
space is limited, register early to avoid disappointment.
Registration closes May 8 for the Actor’s Centre Workshop
and May 20 for Creative Costuming. Workshop fees for the Actor’s
Centre Workshop are $95 (Borelians and ACT-CO members) $125
(non-members) and fees for Creative Costuming are $40 (Borelian
and ACT-CO members) $50 (non-members).
Both workshops are being held at the Prince
Albert Community Hall. For more information and a registration
form, contact 905 985-4914.
